Jamaica Missions Journal #1

Today was our second day in Jamaica, and our first day at our work site - Harvest Hills School, which is a Latin American Childcare School (LACC). Our teams divided up into two main groups: construction and childrens ministry. Our construction team focused on laying block, pouring columns in the new kitchen facility and also began framing the new eating area for the 130 children who attend the school and currently have no place to eat. Our childrens team held their first day of VBS (Vacation Bible School) at the church that is attached to the school. We were amazed as 80 kids showed up for the fun!
Around 11 AM as we were in the midst of our work, a massive rain shower moved in. People often say it rains a lot in Seattle...I am just glad we do not have rain like this! Everyone was soaked. I will try to add some video of the rain to our missions blog (www.eastridgemissions.com).
It has been a great experience for many of our team who have never traveled outside of the US. Watching people reach out to others, build relationship and serve is a wonderful thing to observe. Tomorrow we will continue with construction, as well as our childrens ministry VBS.

Take some time to check out our Eastridge Missions Blog - www.eastridgemissions.com. We will be giving updates throughout the week with pictures, stories and video of what is going on.
